Memorandum from Leonidas H. Berry to James Z. Appel, about discriminatory practices of the American Medical Association

The National Medical Association formed a "Liaison Committee" with the American Medical Association (AMA) to press the AMA to join the fight for racial equality in medicine. The AMA had long refused to address discriminatory practices, and in 1966 the most they were willing to concede were some "voluntary efforts." They also agreed to consider some black physicians for AMA committees.
