Letter from A. L. Spaulding to Leonidas H. Berry, reporting on "unsavory" attitudes during his fellowship
In this letter to Berry, A. L. Spaulding explained that he is resigning his internship in hematology at Cook County Hospital "in protest against the practice of discriminatory attitudes in a tax supported institution." Spaulding reported that meetings of the "liver committee" were racially segregated, and that white interns and physicians took credit for his work.
