Letter to Leonidas H. Berry from Robert M. Nash, with a "List of Civil Rights Complaints Filed with HEW"
In response to Dr. Berry’s request for a summary of complaints about continuing discriminatory practices in hospitals, Robert M. Nash at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare stated that the Public Health Service had only recently been assigned the responsibility for assuring that all hospitals and nursing homes in the country were complying with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. He enclosed a list of hospitals and other facilities receiving funding that were reported to be practicing racial discrimination. Most were in the South.
