"Needs for improved hospital-community relations for health care in the ghetto"
In a speech to public health students at the University of Illinois, Leonidas H. Berry criticized the medical system’s over-reliance on clinical care and technology and emphasized the need for "community preventive medicine" in poor urban communities. Coordinated services, follow-up care, home care, and psychological and social services were all necessary to improve both the physical and "psycho-social" health of black communities.
