"Chicago Hospital Staff Appointments to Negro Doctors" chart

In the early 1960s, Dr. Berry chaired the Health Advisory Committee of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. This chart, produced by Berry’s committee, shows that in 1956 only nine of the more than fifty private hospitals in Chicago had African American physicians practicing on their staffs.
