Letter from Leonidas H. Berry and Hal M. Freeman to “Dear Friend” on the shortage of Chicago South Side hospital facilities
In 1962 Leonidas H. Berry proposed a plan to bring more health facilities to Chicago’s predominantly African American South Side. In this letter as chair of the Chicago Commission on Human Relation’s Advisory Health Committee, he argued that the geographical mal-distribution of hospitals and clinics contributed to sharp racial inequality in Chicago’s health care system.
