Nurses working for the Henry Street Visiting Nurse Service in New York City took these snapshots, which show their lives and the lives of the families they cared for in the 1930s.

Four White female nurses in overcoats and cloche hats holding leather nursing bags and standing next to a brick building.

“Miss Kirkwood, student; Miss Weaver, Miss Gruschow, Miss Jeffrey”

Miss Weaver and Miss Jeffrey are wearing the Henry Street Visiting Nurse Service insignia on their hat band as part of their uniforms. The insignia was given to nurses who were accepted on the Staff after a two-months introductory period.
