Nurses working for the Henry Street Visiting Nurse Service in New York City took these snapshots, which show their lives and the lives of the families they cared for in the 1930s.

Families receiving care from the Henry Street Visiting Nurse Service suffered from common diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, influenza, and scarlet fever, as well as the occasional rare illness like leprosy.

Seven children in this family had scarlet fever; one young boy died.
