Domestic Violence: The Development and Implementation of a Hospital Protocol for the Identification and Treatment of Battered Women, 1980

In the mid-1970s, nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston were on the cutting edge of identifying violence against women as a serious and largely-ignored health care issue. After deciding to establish services in their emergency department, they realized they needed a multidisciplinary team to provide the best possible services. This monograph outlined the history, process, and therapeutic interventions, and included the "Brigham and Women's protocol" as an example of a hospital-based domestic violence program.
