Letter from Barbara Roberts to Daniel Sheridan June 1, 1981

Barbara Roberts, an emergency medical technician in rural Missouri, sent a hand-written letter to Sheridan after seeing his published letter in the American Journal of Nursing. She described that she had worked with "battered wives" privately, as there were few available services for the women who experienced intimate partner violence. In addition, she noted a general lack of understanding and recognizing domestic violence issues among medical professionals at that time.
