Nursing Care of Victims of Family Violence, 1984
When Jacquelyn Campbell and Janice Humphreys set out to teach the first undergraduate nursing class about family violence, they realized that no textbook on the topic existed. The first edition of the textbook they subsequently wrote and edited included chapters written by other violence specialists. The 1993 edition changed the word "victim" in the title to "survivor," a sign of the rapid sociological changes occurring in the medical field and in society at large as a result of activism on behalf of people who experienced trauma—now being seen as having survived, not simply having been victimized.
