An essay on culinary poisons: containing cautions relative to the use, ..., 1781

Joseph Robertson wrote his Essay on culinary poisons to educate people on fatal food-borne diseases. He discusses, for instance, the dangers of eating mushrooms despite their popularity in many different cultures; the importance of avoiding laurel and fool's parsley (hemlock); and the risks of eating food cooked in rusted copper pots. Chapters on lead poisoning from pottery, and the quality of drinking water from different sources, are also included.
