The German apothecary and surgeon Hieronymus Brunschwig was one of the first of his profession to use the printing press. Brunschwig combined his reading of alchemical and medical treatises with an emphasis on personal experience and empirical observation. In this reprint of the original 1500 edition of his Destillierbuch der rechten Kunst, von Kreutern, Wurtzeln, Blumen, Samen,…, he catalogues pages of helpful information on plants and their useful properties, such as garden radishes used to treat skin disorders and rosemary used to treat fever.
