Lectures on the principles and practice of midwifery, 1842

Eminent English obstetrician and professor, James Blundell, wrote this textbook as a companion to his lectures. In it, he details the female reproductive anatomy, explains how to deliver babies and care for mothers, and describes treatments for several complications of pregnancy and childbirth, including blood transfusion. Blundell was the first to perform a human-to-human blood transfusion and developed a method to do so in order to save his patients who hemorrhaged during childbirth.
