Paracelsus and his influence on chemistry and medicine, 1853

Steiner compares Paracelsus (1493–1541)—credited for establishing the role of chemistry in medicine—to other important figures in the history of medicine and chemistry, offers a biography, and discusses Paracelsus' legacy in 19th-century biomedical science. In Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus (1818), Professor Waldheim, Victor Frankenstein's mentor, refers to Paracelsus and Agrippa (1486–1535) as "men whose indefatigable zeal provided the foundation of modern knowledge."
