George Ripley's "A Treatise of Mercury and the Philosopher's Stone" is one of 14 essays contained in this small volume. Ripley, an English alchemist, wrote several alchemical works discussing the compounds required to produce the Philosopher's Stone, a legendary substance that could turn base metals into gold and bring great wealth and immortality.
