    [Handwriting] Nogent-sur-Marne, 12/3 1915. Chers Parents, [illegible]. Je viens vous raconter ma vie des 2 premiers jours á la caserne [illegible]. Je suis arrivé á [Paris] hier matin (16) à 8 heures. Aprés avoir pris le métro je suis allé reprendre le train à la gare de l'est et à 9 heures j'arrivais á Rosny. Je me suis rendu aussitôt au fort où je suis arrivé juste pour manger la soupe, du boeuf, et des haricots. Le soir je me suis promèné toute la journée dans le fort et sur les bastions, jusque vers 4 heures, heure a laquelle on m'a promené au fort de Nogent-sur-marne ou j'ai di verse au pelotón des engagés volontaires. Nous sommes actuellement 110 pour lesquels quelques [illegible] mais surtout des jeunes des classes 16 et 17. Je suis le seul de la classe 18. Beaucoup n'ant que 3, 4 mois de plus que moi. Ce matin je me suis rendu a Rosny, ou on m'a [illegible], je suis trés bien habillé, j'ai [illegible] tout mon fourniment et le t. [Illegible].

    French manufacture
    [Handwriting] Nogent-Sur-Marne, 3/12/1915. Dear Parents, [illegible]. I want to tell you about be first 2 days at the barracks. I arrived in [Paris] yesterday (16) at 8 o'clock. After taking the metro, I got back on the train at the East Station, and at 9, I arrived at Rosny. I went immediately to the fort where I ate a dinner of soup beef and green beans that evening. I spent the whole day walking around the fort and the bastions, until 4, at which time I was taken to the fort at Nogent-Sur-marne where I was assigned to the volunteer platoon. We are in fact 110 [illegible] but there are youths from the classes of '16 and '17. I am the only one from the class of '18. Many are only 3 or 4 months older than me. The next morning I went to Rosny, or on me [illegible], I am very well dressed, I [illegible] all my kit and. [Illegible].
