Elizabeth Moxon published English housewifery in 1769 to provide mistresses, as well as "higher and lower women servants," with useful and practical recipes perfected during her thirty years of service. She promises the recipes are confined to things "useful, substantial, and splendid." In a supplement to her text, Moxon provides a seasonal bill of fare, and a variety of table settings for dinners and suppers.
