A Treatise Concerning the Properties and Effects of Coffee, 1792
Written before coffee was consumed widely, Benjamin Moseley's treatise introduces readers to the history, health advantages, and particulars of preparing and drinking coffee. He cites its beneficial effects on digestion; it usefulness as treatment for vertigo, lethargy, and fevers; and concludes that its increased consumption would "benefit the state" and be wholesome for the poor.
