The family's best friend: or The whole art of cookery made plan and easy, ..., 1755
Arabella Fairfax's cookbook is filled with over six hundred recipes, including traditional English dishes such as giblet pie and strawberry fool. Based on principles of "frugality, elegance, and good housewifery," the book provides directions for pastry, pickling, and potting; cultivating fruits, flowers, and kitchen gardens; and brewing and distilling. Several interesting woodcut illustrations showing the proper technique for trussing fowl and game are also provided for the reader's education.
