Benjamin Moseley, M.D. , ca. 1815
Benjamin Moseley (1742–1819) studied medicine in London and Paris before moving to Jamaica in 1768, where he was appointed surgeon-general. In 1785, he returned to England, and subsequently served as a physician at Chelsea Hospital for thirty years. His A treatise concerning the properties and effects of coffee (1785) presents a comprehensive study of what was known about the origins and health effects of coffee in the late 1700s.
