In the preface to her cookbook, Mary Kettilby mentions that it was her "desire of doing good" that prompted her to write a book of recipes, all of which, she argues, are "palatable, useful, and intelligible." Although not as long as some of the other cookbooks from the period, the author's collection nevertheless covers a range of cooking techniques, from baking to pickling, as well as many healing remedies.
