Observations on the Scurvy, …, 1793

Thomas Trotter was a physician aboard the notorious slave ship Brookes. The ship was made infamous by posters depicting enslaved Africans and the deplorable conditions they endured. This book explores theories or causes and treatments for scurvy aboard the slave ships. Trotter examines existing medical practices for diagnosing and treating the disease by other physicians. Section 1 of this book includes his observations of diet and living conditions of sailors and slaves on board the Liverpool Guineaman, where he worked as a physician during its voyage in 1783.
